We would like to invite you to take part in the international automation competition xplore - New Automation Award 2015. The xplore New Automation Award 2015 offers pupils, students, and trainees the opportunity to implement creative and unusual ideas for the automation industry.

Phoenix Contact is delighted to be hosting this international competition for the sixtht year. Close working with tech-savvy youngsters, classroom-based training and support, as well as specific further development of creative young people through to implementing technical innovations, are of paramount importance to Phoenix Contact here.

The diverse nature of technology is reflected in the seven categories of the competition: Education, Buildings, Factory, Recreation, Environment, Inspiring Engineers, and Twins. When it comes to implementation, particularly special categories are Twins and Inspiring Engineers. The “Twins” category involves planning and implementing a work-based automation idea. For example, a vocational school could program the electronic controller for an automation solution, while the corresponding mechanical drive is being manufactured at a training center. With this in mind, close cooperation that eliminates cultural borders is both a sought after and realistic aspect of the project. As additional agreements are particularly required in this case, this category has received more financial support than the other categories.

The “Inspiring Engineers” category has been created for project proposals from competitors up to 18 years. Special conditions apply here for the technical implementation as well as for the presentation. While the language to be used in the competition is exclusively English in all the other categories, projects can be presented in one's own native language in this category

Interested pupils and students are invited to submit their project ideas in teams by May 31, 2014. The eight members of the jury including scientists, academics, and association representatives have to select 100 projects from those submitted. Each of the 100 ideas selected, is awarded a non-monetary bonus of €3,000, Twin projects €4,000, Inspiring Engineers projects €1,000.

The competitors present their ideas in brief application videos (2-3 minutes) so that the jury can gain a comprehensive first impression of the ideas. The selected teams then have until February 2015 to implement their projects and send the results.

30 ideas will be nominated, and in March 2015 they will be presented at Phoenix Contact's site in Bad Pyrmont. Ultimately, the top three teams in each category will be awarded prizes and the seven winners will receive an invite to the Hanover Fair 2015.
